Banned Maps 2 — villages and farms of ceded Karelia follows the atlas Banned Maps, Karelia 1928—1944. The atlas includes all the so called economical maps of the areas Kannas and Sortavala at 1:100 000 that were made by the National Survey Board 1912—1944. The formerly concealed, hand drawn maps of real property boundaries in Kannas and southern Ladogan Karelia from the archive of the National Survey Board are published for the first time. The atlas includes ca. 100 printed parish maps at 1:20 000 in reduced size. In the book there is also an index of the farm and village toponyms gathered from these maps.
The maps describe the structure of Karelian settlement. Surveyor and genealogist Jyrki Tiitanen explains in his article the features of the history of the settlement and central concepts of land use and reforms. He also tells what information there is on the ownerships of the ceded Karelian farms. The parent farms are listed in the book according to the situation at the end of the 19th century. Mr. Tiittanen illustrates how the interested can find further information on the farms and villages in the National Archives and in the provincial archive of Mikkeli.
